Mischtechnik (sometimes erroneously written ‘mische technique’) means mixed technique, a ‘method’ of painting where, conventionally, egg tempera is used in combination with oil based paints and resins to create the possibility of rendering a luminous, resonant realism.
The rubric of mischtechnik could also incorporate fusion of acrylics, airbrush, and digital.

Daniel Mirante painting with magnifying loupes to get into the details
Working with other artists and engaging in an abundance of experimentation has given me valuable feedback on my blind spots, allowing evolution to occur…
Learning to build a painting as a craft through consideration of the longevity of various materials and pigments used can help produce work that retains the vibrancy and freshness of when it was painted. Exploring the magic of the creative process and avenues of inspiration brings one close to the mystery inherent in art.
Daniel Mirante has spent time training with modern masters, also collaborating with contemporaries and undertaking study with art restoration and conservation specialists. From this experience he has an overview of different styles and approaches to tuition.
Mischtechnik for me, provides a kind of centre of orientation amidst the dazzling profusion of possible routes to take in the creation of a painting. It is a methodology that works best when experimented with, diverged from and improvised around.
