Harmonic Spaces is a visionary Arts exhibition presented by the team behind Earth Frequency Festival, whom hold an exhibition twice each year. The exhibition holds a mix of local and visiting artists. This time, Android Jones and Pha-Droid presented and performed, and I was honored to give a presentation about visionary art lineages and creativity.

The Spirit of Play and Visionary Creativity

Creativity is of planetary import, as we witness a destruction of creation, there is an urge to create new possibilities, and through an awareness of the source we become attuned to the creative force to develop new modes of relating and being.
Play is at the heart of creativity. Children love to make things, draw and play, and have adventure games with a strong element of fantasy. Through the play of creativity we gain an access to something like an archaic cultural memory, where spontaniously we can reveal and revive the ancient lexicon of the symbolic.
Its no coincidence that these ‘visionary art’ images relate to the childs fantasy world, but its not just a ‘fantasy genre’ – its the hearkening to the time before the invaders when the indigenous cuture was connected and attuned to the rhythms of the land.
These are the imaginal architectures and resonances of mythic histories or dreamings you won’t read about in history books… there are these layers. and every culture has its different levels of ancestral memory. so creativity taps into the lands dreaming and when listened to can indicate how it can be made whole again.

As we move into a multi sourced awareness of inspiration, the ancestral inspirations and motifs of the symbolic past which speak of a true communion with land and spirit are potentially able to be sourced not through bloodline, or land right or heraldic claim, but just through the hyper dimensional free ways of intention, openness and appreciation which is somehow our fortunate legacy of these breakthrough times.
This remembering, and the recalling of our capacity to appreciate the sacred, is becoming vital for our survival as a species. it is the inherent urge to protect and value our living world.
However naive our grasp may be in terms of size and solution to achieve actual change, the urge is a growing force, which may refine and strengthen itself in time, as a child does, in new and unfamiliar territory. in these times we may well look no longer to the external proclaimed truths, but to out instinct, to intuitiion, to nature and in this way visionary stimulation and encouragment is beneficial to grow this urge, to nurtute the childs grasp on possibility.
This is the sacred mysterious terrain where we are taught by image and archetype by a communion between seen and unseen within stimulating a remembering, or an epiphany to be remembered.

Tolkein writing on faery stories – ….“I wrote to a man who described myth and fairystory as “lies” though to do him justice he was kind enough and confused enough to call fairy story making “breathing a lie through silver”.
“Dear Sir, I said
although now long estranged
man is not wholly lost nor wholly changed
dis- graced he may be, yet is not dethroned
and keeps the rags his lordship once owned
man, sub creator and the light
through whom is splintered from a single white
to many hues, and endlessly combined
in living shapes that move from mind to mind.
through the crannies of the world we filled
with elves and goblins, though we dared to build
gods and their houses out of dark and light,
and sowed the seeds of dragons-twas our right
(used and misused). that right has not decayed:
we make still by the law in which we are made ”
We have many dreamings and impulses and feelings we don’t have words to even convey to each other the depths inside us. the creative arts are means to express these facets, and art holds many keys for remembering, and understanding the ground that we walk on, and the ideas that we live and breath, sometimes without knowing it.
Thus in the exploration of creativity, we aquire a capacity for remembering and thus a capacity for potential healing of our imaginal and emotional capacities. art transcends and preserves the symbols though times may change, we look back to the wisdom of old story and symbol to imbue some of that magic.
Though centuries of ransacking and destruction and stagnation may have come between, it is a way of communicating outside the parameters of individuals life spans, but also creating ancestral artifacts for those who come after us, as well as drawing from the lineage of those before.
We are all passing the baton on further from where it rest, and art is continually reshaping myth to the new perspective, though the resounding nature of the human experience is encoded within the myth, the new interpretations release new wisdom for the livers and beholders and reveal nuances of the myths capacity to inform on life.
Its wonderful as we take responsibility for the world which we beqeath to our species and the other species of creation, to realise that the legacy of image and symbol is truly for that, – we are the music makers, we are the dreamer of dreams –
